MAGINON-SERIE f4-5.6 60-300mm

The lens in all its glory before the operation. Done at about 02:00 to 00:03 in the morning. All the best projects are done at stupid O clock in the morning.

Anyway the symptoms with this one is some lens fungus on the rear element. Luckily it was just the rear lens element that was effected which means the repair should be very easy.

First step was the unscrew the four screws holding in the rear plate & M42 thread. That just pulls off.

Once that is removed you have access to the rear lens elements. Luckily they remove as a group. Meaning unlike the last zoom lens I repaired I did not have to take the whole thing apart which was nice.

Once out we did hit a snag. The screw rings holding the lenses in were glued on. The meant no matter how much me & my partner tried we could not get the glue to release its hold.

It was even cutting my partners hands up. But a little thinking I was able to solve the problem in a logical way.

So I put the lens module in a vice & used a small metal hacksaw to cut two notches into the screw ring. The alignment was not perfect but it did not need to be. This would at least allow my lens tool to fit in the newly created slots.

With the lens module nice & secure in the vice I used a small blow torch to provide heat to soften the glue. Quite a few glues are softened by heat regardless of the type. I then used the lens tool to unscrew the threaded insert & it came free allowing me access to the effected lens.

Thankfully the whole group of lenses was not effected & it was just the one lens. I took it out, place the rest so dust would not cause a problem. Then I used IPA & a microfiber cloth to clean the lens as that kills the fungus that grows on them. Then i cleaned it to be a sterile as possible & reassembled the lens unit. I then put the rest of the lens back together & admired my work. Still to go out & take test shots with it though.
