Pakefield ROC & Radar

So me & my partner decided to have a look at the Radar & ROC station at the Pakefield right next to a camping site along the cliff face. When we arrived we saw this USA school bus converted into a camper.

The first of two generator houses. The WWII ones are all built the same, while they would not survive a direct hit that were hardened from glancing hits.

The top of the radar station has the remains of a crows nest on top of it. We did not take the ladder with us so we were unable to clime up to it.

Pillbox/toilet block.

Weeds in the windows. The area is very overgrown. Some of the windows still have their blast doors. Cable channels can be spotted in the floor of the main room.

The cliff face has crumbled away all the way back to the radar station. It is at a real risk of being lost to the sea.

A nice cliff side view can be had from here just tread carefully.

Some of the external fixtures are still in place. However most are heavily damaged if not completely destroyed.

The cliff has encroached up to the radar station now & is crumbling away under it.

A shot of me & my partner exploring the site. As we were up in the area for the weekend.

The entrance to the ROC bunker. It is very heavily weathered. Pretty much all the metal parts have been removed or rusted away in the sea air. The ladder down was in poor condition & a lot of rubbish was sitting at the bottom of the shaft.

One of the ventilation shafts that is very heavily weathered. Any metal parts are quite heavily corroded.

Despite trying climbing into the bunker was not safe. The ladder had snapped in two half way down & was missing a run. I did decide to give it a go But when I got down to the section that was missing a run & one side of the ladder that the run I stood on just above the missing one snapped below me & I plunged down into the bunker a bit.

It was at the point the ladder had proven it was not safe to be on as it had corroded to much & was collapsing with me on it. So I climbed back out & my partner stayed topside & never went down.

The ROC post is heavily overgrown bu still accessible from the cliff side from the radar building.

The whole that had tried to eat me. Very heavily weathered & in really poor condition. Now missing two runs on its ladder I would not recommend anyone go down there at this point as it was be very easy to get stuck or fall into the shaft.

The only way to access the roof without a ladder is to be a monkey man. The ladder was stupidly left in the car. The original ladder that was on the building was l long gone. Probably corroded away in the salty sea air.

Another side of the pill/toilet bock.

Inside the pillbox/toilet block.

The second backup generator house. Guess there were two for redundancy as the site was not very big. That or most of it fell into the sea.

My partner peering down at me in the second generator house.

The mounting points for the generator in generator house two.
