Ashford Train Depot

Panelised glass, a good portion of it broken from who knows what sources. Oftern when these places are in use the panels still get broken & never repaired.

You can see one of the gantry cranes though the lower broken windows. Although the condition of this one is poor due to it being exposed to the elements for decades.

One of the SON lamps still hanging off the bottom of the gantry crane to provide lighting for the operator & workers underneath. You can really see how skeletal the structure has become due to that part of the building have massive parts of its Asbestos roof missing.

An accidental double exposure with another site that burnt down not long before I took these photos. You can see one of the warehouse building is still active & is cordoned off by the railway company. A CCTV camera also protects that gate, all the doors are locked making access hard.

Another shot of the gantry crane using a different camera. You can see how much of the roof is missing. It is also a breeding ground for pigeons.

The other warehouse next to it. The old vent is still intact although no window panels survive.

The remains of one of the workshops. You can see the rails one of the other gantry cranes would run along. There is also a little shipping crate office sitting at the end. You can also see some of the lights are still hanging in the rafters.

Inside one of the other warehouses. You can see the indents where the tracks use to be or maybe still are but burred under a ton of pigeon shit. Interestingly this one has no gantry crane in this area despite evidence of the trains having been run though this building.

The panel windows. They have more pains of glass than Asbestos panels on the roof.

A colour version of inside the long warehouse you can see the whole way down. You can see the ridges of the train tracks. You can see the top door to the left has had the roof collapse in as daylight is coming though. A few of the lights are missing from the ceiling, there is also a lot of evidence of building works going on inside.

One of the fuse boxes dotted on one of the walls. As it is open you can the fuses. You can see under the missing fuses, little asbestos pads that were to keep the fuses from setting fire to the wires when they blew.

The cab of the better condition gantry crane. The only crane operators these days are the pigeons & they are not very good operators. They do like to observe the goings on at the yard though.

The other side of the gantry crane. A little on the rusted side but would probably power up & work if you turned on the power to it.

This gantry crane has two crane hooks on it, one is the main unit, the other is an aux hook. Interesting at some point in its operational life the main crane was downgraded from a 35 tom to 15 ton. Still beefy enough to lift my car. Might have slight issues getting power to it though.

The little office shipping container sitting at the end of the warehouse. with the good condition gantry crane.

A broken PIR light with no bulb is also wire into an outdoor fluoro light module.

An old halogen light hanging off the wall next to a broken burglar alarm that will no longer work.

A winch motor, despite missing parts, looks to be part of a door mechanism. There is even a wheel that would have had a chain on it as an override.

The broken windows in the main warehouse with the more rotted gantry crane.
