Toshiba T3100SX Repair

Kaboom & Smoking

This was a really cool machine as the battery leakage was so bad & had nuked the built in PSU. When I got it I had no clue where to start unitil a fellow YouTuber pointed me in the right direction. So I started following his advice. What could posibaly go wrong.

The Pinout

Someone who watched my videos figured out the pinout for PSU to motherboard connector & sent me all the info & what they did to get it working. The only part that needed a jumper cable was the monitor 12V line.

SO I dug out a standard PC PSU, an old 90s one that now lives inside of a IBM5160 PSU. & hooked up the 12V & 5V to the respective correct pins. The result was good he powered up & everything inside this machine worked.

I was able to explore around inside MS-DOS, look at Windows 3.1 on a monchrome orange gas plasma display. Sadly I had a moment of incopatence when reasembaling this machine that ledt to me swapping the 5V with the 12V. Well, the computer made a loud poping sound & more smoke than your anual smokers convention came pooring out of every vent & hole in the system. At that point I know it was game over, the protection in the PSU did nothing to save the machine & he was dead. I put the 12V & 5V back right, but nothing, not even an LED.
