Husky Hunter 16:16/80

Husky Hunter 16

The Husky Hunter 16 was the first Husky to abandon DEMOS aka CP/M & move over to MS DOS in the early 90s. By then Microsoft's dominonce in the computing world was assured. More spersicly MS DOS v3.30A. It does not have much on be defult, but onece again could be fully customised for the user if needed.

The specks are the same as the Husky FS2 as it uses the same chipset. V25 8MHz 8086 2MB - 10MB RAM, the "HDD" is battery backed RAM, hence most of the PCB is covered in RAM. I have repalced the NiCad leaky bastard with a new NiMH replacement which has worked flawlessly since as these machine are a bit of a paint to get running when the batterys are completely dead.

The front of the unit took the brunt of the abuse this poor thing suvied. Yet dispite the fact the case is physicly smashed, it still protected the electronics inside, really showing how well built these things are.

I swapped over the lables, but this is the Husky Hunter 16 back. You can see a hammer impact on the right. This damage was very intentional. In the end I used one of my 16/80 cases as that machine was dead.

Husky Hunter 16/80

This machen is basicly a Husky Hunter 16 with a bigger display, same as the Husky Hunter 2 was a larger screened version of the Husky Hunter. Only this time the resolution is increesed. All other parts between them are interchangerble.

Sadly he no longer works, I was able for a short peroid able to get one of them working & I have tryed again since, but no success. Hoever I was able to use one to fix the smashed Hunter 16, so it was not all a loss. Maybe I can get this working at some point.

The motherboard is pretty much the same as the Husky Hunter 16. The chipset is the exsact same as in the FS3, D70325GJ-10 V25 8MHz 8086 CPU. Most of the computer lives on this chip. Also has the same custom Husky chip, the C8300-1300. Even runs on the same version of MS DOS.

There is not to much to see on the from of the LCD. However you can see the mosture indicator, oftern by these days they have gone pink due to mosture or just wareing out.

The rear of the motherboard just moons us. Pretty standard for the Husky Hunter range though.

Hitarchi, were the kings of LCD display drivers back in the day & still has left a mark to this day. You can also see the conections for the EL panel. Sadly old EL panels like this oftern don't work any more.

The evil NiCad VARTA memory backup batterys.

A close up of the chipset that also resides in the Husky FS2 series

One of the few times I hade the Hunter 16/80 running.

When you first open a Husky Hunter up you are mooned.
